Hydration
Keeping enough body water; thirst and urine colour are good everyday guides.
Concepts
Definition
Hydration is the balance between the water you take in and the water you lose through urine, sweat and breathing. Most healthy people can rely on thirst plus roughly pale-yellow urine as a guide rather than a fixed number of glasses. Needs rise with heat, exercise, altitude and illness. Drinks, and the water in food, both count. Very dark urine, headache and dizziness suggest you need more; drinking far beyond thirst is unnecessary and rarely even harmful.
